Among Intel users, the i5 lineup is traditionally popular. However, the 13400 generation is barely different from the 12400, so specialized benchmarks are required to spot the practical differences.

The 14400 generation is similarly stagnant compared to its predecessor. When comparing the 14400 to the 13400, we see only a 100 MHz increase under low-threaded loads on the performance cores. When all cores are engaged, the frequency stays at 4100 MHz—exactly the same as the 13400. The efficiency cores offer a meager +200 MHz boost.

Furthermore, the processor is based on 12th-generation microarchitecture, meaning it is essentially a refresh of the previous generation rather than a brand-new design. The integrated graphics remain unchanged, with the same clock speed.
In synthetic benchmarks, the Intel Core i5 14400F shows lower read speeds and increased latency. Memory latency is slightly lower even when using DDR4 with half the bandwidth.
For single-chiplet Ryzen processors, memory read and copy speeds barely exceed 60 GB/s. Meanwhile, memory latency for both Ryzens is identical to the 13400.
In Cinebench 2024 single-core tests, the 7600x is the undisputed leader. However, under multi-core loads, the 7600 performs worse than the 7500F. At the same time, the Intel Core i5 14400F with DDR5 leads in multi-core performance.

In Geekbench 6 single-core, Ryzens show up to 10% better performance than Intel. However, in multi-core, they are all roughly equal, with only the 14400 on DDR4 performing 11% worse than the leading 14400 on DDR5.

Rendering in DaVinci is almost independent of memory; here, raw CPU performance is much more critical. The 7500 and 7600 performed worst, being roughly 10% slower than their competitors.

In Adobe Premiere Pro, the same project took the longest to render on the 14400 with DDR4, while the 13400 and 14400 with DDR5 were the fastest. The 7500 and 7600 models fell into the "middle ground" category.
Thermal Consumption
Temperature readings are subject to a high margin of error. The 13400's power consumption differs from the 12400 by only 15–30 watts, and the 14400 proved to be 10 watts more efficient than the 13400. Due to power limit restrictions, the 7500 can drop to 4 GHz, while the 7600 consumes 40 watts more, hitting its thermal limit.
Regarding cooling efficiency, test bench temperatures differed by about 3 °C. Using a BIOS offset, we reduced the 14400's temperature by 8 °C by lowering the voltage by 150 mV.
Gaming Benchmarks

Cyberpunk 2077 was set to high quality with FSR and ray tracing. DDR5 setups outperformed DDR4 by up to 15%. Intel led the test with a slim 2% margin over Ryzen.

In Starfield (Ultra preset), the Ryzens were roughly 4% slower than the 14400. The DDR4 system performed 7% worse than DDR5. Low 0.1% percentiles show a larger gap (up to 18%), where AMD performs as slowly as the 14400 with DDR4.

In Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the 7600 showed the best average frame rate, followed closely by the 14400 with DDR5. Pro tip: if you use monitoring in this game, disable NVML in HWiNFO64 to improve frametimes.

In Hogwarts: Legacy with Ultra settings, all processors except the 14400 with DDR4 reached 60 FPS. DDR4 lags behind DDR5 by 7% in average FPS and over 20% in 1% lows. The 7600 led the pack due to higher clock speeds.


StarCraft 2 is barely sensitive to memory type, so all Intel variants performed equally. Ryzen 7500 and 7600 lead due to their larger L3 cache.

Similarly, the L3 cache helps Ryzen in Counter-Strike 2, where they outperform Intel by 9%. Even forcing all 6 performance cores doesn't help Intel match Ryzen's performance.

In PUBG, the 7600 performed best, beating the 14400 (DDR5) by 9%. The 7500 matches the 13400, while the 14400 with DDR4 trailed behind.

In Hunt: Showdown, the 7600 leads, followed by the 13400 and 14400 with DDR5. Escape from Tarkov also confirmed the 7600's dominance in all scenarios.

Analysis shows the 14400 with DDR5 has a negligible edge over the previous generation (about 1%). The Ryzen 7600 and 7500 are the best gaming CPUs here, though paying extra for the 7600 isn't recommended yet.
